This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of problem based learning model on solving ability high school students. research is a quasy experimental with matching only pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects in this were students class XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Ulubelu. effect size hypothesis test used obtain results PBL students’ abilities. result showed value 0.68 moderate category. So it can be concluded that problem-based effective for improving problem-solving
